When I first heard about Stitch Fix, I was a little hesitant about the idea of letting someone else pick out clothes for me. How accurate could it really be? As someone who is extremely type A, I like to be in control of most aspects of my life - including picking out my clothes when shopping. However, the idea of not having to visit the mall or scroll through endless pages online did appeal to me. 5 items delivered right to my door, in my size & matching my personal style, for me to try on? Sounds like a dream. So I went ahead, chose my style preferences and ordered my first box.
In case you haven't heard of Stitch Fix before, it is a clothing/accessories subscription site that sends you items based on your size, style & budget. You take a simple quiz that asks you questions about your personal style, the type of clothing you wear most often and the types of pieces you are interested in. Then just pick a date, and your hand selected items will arrive at your door. You have 3 days to try everything on - keep what you love & send back what you don't!
Note - there is a $20 styling fee that is attached to each box you order but the fee gets credited towards any items you choose to purchase! AND if you decide to keep all 5 pieces in your box, you get a 25% discount. All the more reason to keep the item(s) you love!
The first two pieces that I opened up were this RD Style Lill chambray dress and these Dolce Vita Amina Woven peep toe booties. Seeing these items, I knew my box was off to a great start! Both pieces were right up my alley and the booties were by a company that I'm already a fan of: Dolce Vita! The dress was such a gorgeous chambray and the distressed hem was a nice touch! I debated back and forth all weekend on whether or not to keep the dress, but I felt that both the dress & shoes were a little bit too big on me (I am wearing size XS in the dress, for reference) and decided that since I already own a denim dress I should send back both.
Next up, I tried on this Moon & Sky Toluca lattice detail blouse. I paired this top with distressed jeans for a casual look and floral sandals to play up the floral print in the top. I loved the idea of this blouse - the pretty floral print, the cut out shoulders, the sheer sleeves - but when I put it on I decided all 3 elements were a bit too much for me. I prefer simpler designs & styles so I decided to send this top back as well, however the quality was great and for under $60, if you are looking for a statement, trendy top for the spring/summer, this is a great option.

I think you were right to send back the dress---although it is very cute, just not fitted at all (not necessarily bad, but if you already have one...)
ReplyDeleteI do like that floral top though--and really, you paired it perfectly (especially with the shoes!!)
I admit that I like shopping way too much to try out stitch fix---although I have learned never to say never!!

Yes - The dress was a little bit bigger than I would have liked but overall I really liked what I got! It was interesting to see what others would pick out for me compared to what I would pick out for myself!
DeleteI am totally the same way- Type A personality made me hesitant to try out Stitch Fix. Isn't shopping the best part of buying something? But I love all the things they sent you (especially that floral top)!! I guess I was too quick to judge and should give it a try!! Thanks for sharing :D

It's totally worth it! It ended up being a great experience & I plan to continue to get boxes from them!
DeleteMy mom has a love for fashion like I do and she recently signed up for Stitch Fix and has fallen in love with their service. So many fun things and I love being surprised by all of these subscription boxes.

It turned out to be so amazing! There wasn't a single piece that I really disliked.
DeleteI was hesitant for the same reasons. I like to shop on my own too much, ha! Looks like they did such a great job. Loving what you got.

It can be scary to give up control, especially when it comes to clothing, but I liked just about everything that I received. Sizing was my main issue :(
DeleteHonestly, I don't remember Stitch Fix being this good. Loving the dress, the top and the DV shoes.
ReplyDeleteI never imagined the clothes to be so trendy & fun!

Yes! Part of my fear was knowing I had to photograph these items, but it ended up working out pretty well :)
DeleteLove that floral top - it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress and booties! I am such a non-spender except in waves that I wouldn't be able to do StitchFix because I probably wouldn't end up buying anything.

The great thing about their subscriptions is you can choose how often you want a new box. Right now, I plan to get them every 3 months so I can choose some new pieces seasonally!
DeleteI have been meaning to try stitch fix. I LOVE that black floral top! Looks amazing on you!! and those shoes are amaze!!

That dress really is cute, but yes it could be a little more fitted. I really love the cold shoulder blouse and I agree it is very bold in color/cut... I'd probably wear it going out, but wouldn't have much of a place for it for just everyday... so it wouldn't get worn as much. These are cute pieces they sent, though!!!

I had the exact same feelings about these pieces as you! Great, but not 100% perfect for me & my lifestyle
