MASTER BEDROOM REVEAL

I have planned for about a year to share looks at our apartment now that it is fully furnished & decorated but I just never got around to it. I'm trying to make it a point to get those posts up this fall! I shared our entry way & kitchen and today I'm sharing our master bedroom! 







This room was such a selling point of this apartment since it's just a large space. I love that we can fit our king size bed, a cushy corner chair & our dresser in the room along with having his & hers closets! To be honest, this room was probably the trickiest to put together. I wanted it to be cozy feeling but also had to take into account Jody's aesthetic and couldn't make it too girly. After painting the room (twice!) we settled on white & gray and he allowed me to add some pops of dusty rose. (To compromise, he chose the lion canvas for above the bed :)!)   













The his & hers closet are another great feature of this room. The organization install was here when we moved in but honestly it has made such a difference in keeping both of us organized, I think I would have closet systems installed in our closets wherever we decide to live next. I love that I have shelves, hanging rods & drawers all inside my closet as well as a place for shoes, jewelry, bags, etc.  Jody has a matching closet on his side of the room!

3 RECIPES WE BAKED RECENTLY (& LOVED)

Sharing 3 recipes that Jody & I have loved making & that turned out delicious! We bake a lot and some of the recipes are overly complicated and others don't turn out great, but today I'm sharing my top 3 from recent baking adventures.

Christina Tosi's Cinnamon Rolls

(recipe adapted here)

TO MAKE THE BUNS:

1 cup whole milk, warmed

1 tbsp warm water

2 1⁄4 tsp active dry yeast

4 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour

1⁄2 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp kosher salt

1 large egg

1 large egg yolk

8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

TO MAKE THE FILLING:

1 cup packed light brown sugar

5 1⁄2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

2 1⁄2 tbsp ground cinnamon

1⁄2 tsp kosher salt

TO MAKE THE FROSTING

3 oz cream cheese, room temp

4 tbsp unsalted butter, room temp

1 1⁄2 cups powdered sugar

1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract

1⁄8 tsp kosher salt

Whisk together milk, water, and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit until foamy, 5 minutes. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in the bowl and mix together on low speed. Add egg, egg yolk, butter, and the yeast concoction and mix until the dough comes together as a thick, sticky mass, 6 mins. Form dough into a smooth ball. Put that ball into a bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and set it aside to rise for an hour or doubled in size.

1. While the dough is rising, mix together brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl to make the filling. Once dough has risen, use a rolling pin roll it into a large square. Spread the filling evenly over the surface, then roll the dough into a tube shape. Using a knife, slice the tube into 12 rounds, about 1 1⁄3 inches thick each. Arrange the rounds in a pan, leaving 1 inch between them. Let them rise for another 1 to 2 hours, until they’ve doubled in size.
2. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the buns for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, to make the frosting: Combine cream cheese and butter in a bowl and mix on high for 1 minute. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt then whip for 2 minutes, or until the frosting is a pale white and fluffy.
3. Remove the buns from the oven and, while they are warm, spread the frosting over them. Serve & Enjoy!

Lemon Loaf

TO MAKE THE LOAF:

3 eggs

1 cup sugar

1 cup sour cream

4 lemons, zested

 1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

TO MAKE THE SOAK:

1 cup powdered sugar

6 tablespoons lemon juice

TO MAKE THE GLAZE:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp lemon juice

Whisk eggs, sugar & sour cream together. Whisk in oil & lemon zest. Whisk in flour, baking powder and salt. Bake at 350 degrees for 60 mins. Meanwhile, whisk together powdered sugar & lemon juice for the soak until smooth. Pour the soak on the loaf while it’s cooling so it sops up all the flavor. While the loaf cools, whisk together powdered sugar & lemon juice for the glaze. Once cooled pour glaze over the cake. Slice and enjoy.

Lemon Cookies
(recipe adapted here)

TO MAKE THE COOKIES:
1 package lemon cake mix
1 egg
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 tbsp water

TO MAKE THE GLAZE:

1 lemon, zested

2 tbsp lemon juice

1/3 cup powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine cake mix, egg, oil & water in a bowl and mix until combined. Place small balls of dough on baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 10-13 minutes. In the meantime, combine lemon zest, lemon juice and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Once cookies have cooled, drizzle glaze on cookies and enjoy.
