SPRING CAMO

 You know how some patterns seem to be seasonal, or some clothing items seem like they can only be worn for certain occasions?  I hate those rules & love to test the limits by wearing patterns or pieces that may be a bit out of the ordinary.

Floral in the middle of winter?  In darker shades, bring them on.  Camo in the spring?  With crisp white & blush accessories, it totally works.

A GRAY DAY

 

We are through this week! I think this week felt extra long because I've been looking forward to leaving for Philly with J today!  We are so excited to explore the city, taste some cheese steak sandwiches & attend the Rangers/Flyers hockey game! #groupies

COZY IN CAMO

Yay!  This weekend J & I officially planned to take a weekend trip to Philadelphia at the end of February!  Last winter, we drove up to Boston  for a few days & had such a great time exploring the city & visiting some of my family & friends while we were there.  

This year, we wanted to do something similar & debated on where to visit.  Our school & work schedules don't allow us a lot of time to get away right now, so we chose Philly for a long weekend!  Neither of us have ever been to the city of Philadelphia, so we are looking forward to exploring the city & eating at new restaurants.

So, I've gotta ask - do any of you have recommendations on what to do or where to eat while in Philly?? I'm open to any and all suggestions :)

POPS OF PATTERN

I have a bit of fall fever today, pairing some darker shades & patterns together for a sporty look.

Pattern mixing is one of my favorite style tricks.  While it can sound intimidating, it's actually super easy to do.  

1. Find one or two colors that are the same in all of the patterns that you are wearing.  In my case, it's black & white. See another black/white look here.

2. Try to limit the number of colors that you wear when mixing prints.  The stripes & camo add enough to my outfit; bright colors would be over the top. See my blue/white patterned look here.

3. Stripes are super easy to pair with another print because of their simplicity.  Stripes look great with floral prints, camo or a graphic print.  See my stripe/floral look here.

I am loving the color red for fall.  It is such a powerful color & can be paired with almost any other color.  I let the bright red color of this dress really stand out by pairing it with neutral greens & brown tones.

Happy rainy Friday here in NY. Don't these boots remind you of classic children's rain boots?  They remind me of the rainy day outfits in the Madeline books, not to mention, yellow happens to be my favorite color.  They add a bit of sunshine on my feet during a gray day.

PS. If you're thinking of buying Hunter boots for spring, first of all, they are the best purchase I've ever made.  I'm a huge believer in cost/wear. In other words, divide the total cost of the item by the number of times you will wear it...is the price still worth it? In the case of Hunter boots, my answer is YES. Secondly, I found them to run fairly large & was able to purchase the kids' size boot. The only differences are the reflectors on the back & the shaft of the boot is a few inches shorter, plus they are cheaper (!)

Happy April & Happy April Fool's Day! Did anyone get tricked today? My poker face isn't strong enough to pull off a good prank, but in case you need some ideas, I got a laugh out of this Buzzfeed article & totally believe there are some adults out there who would fall for these tricks.
